When I sit down to create my handmade jewelry, sometimes I just draw a blank! I just sit and stare at my gemstones and wonder… what do I do with these? So now what?
What helps me the most is my trusty spiral notebook, when I get an idea for a new necklace, bracelet, earrings… or just anythying, I get my “jewelry” book and make a little blueprint, I have to admit 1/2 of my jewelry ideas never get made and the other 1/2 of jewelry ideas turn into something totally different! Oh wait.. there is a tiny bit of jewelry designs from my sketches that actually do get made as I drew them.
But it’s fabulous to look back at my sketches and get ideas from those.. I usually hear myself saying… OH YEAH!!! That would look sweet! Let’s see how I can incorporate this design into some wearable handmade art! It saves on time, and I find myself staring less into space and being more productive with my jewelry design.
I also find myself looking at all the jewelry the ladies out there are wearing, see what colors are most popular etc… shapes, sizes, hoops, pendants… I try to look at their jewelry inconspicuously but I’m not sure that always works! Sometimes I think I may come across as some weirdo with a staring problem! hahaha!
So get out your PENCIL and ERASER and start doodling you next handmade jewelry best seller!
